Fairlands Cricket Club play all their home games on the delightful community owned recreation ground that is situated behind the Fairlands, Liddington and Gravetts Lane association hall and the club and it’s players are currently looking forward to the 2024 season.

The cricket club has been in existence for over 50 years, and over those years very many local residents have played for the club, some of whom have had some cricketing ability and some who have slightly, or perhaps a lot less than that. The ethos of the team is very much an intention for everyone in the team to enjoy themselves, and certainly we play to win but everyone enjoying the game is the principal intention. The captain of the team Gerry, always looks to ensure that every player either bats or bowls during the course of each game. The team currently contains quite a number of local residents who live within the association area, but we are currently looking for new players, and with the new year upon us all, the new cricket season will be starting before too long.

The cricket club has recently spent nearly £700 improving the quality of the square under the guidance of an experienced groundsman so that by the time the season starts, with the improvements made, both the actual cricket square and the rest of the ground will be in excellent condition. The team play their games on a Sunday afternoon with most games starting at 2pm and we aim to finish shortly after 7pm with a drink in the bar.
The team will be playing a number of games in the 2024 season beginning in May, and concluding at the beginning of September, a large number of the fixtures are against other local clubs, including our most local rivals Wood Street, who despite their best efforts have not managed to beat Fairlands for a number of years. Other games are played against Bramley, Worplesdon, Westfield and Peperharrow amongst others.
If you are interested in playing for your local cricket club, and practise nets take place every Friday evening on the recreation ground from the beginning of April,
